Congratulations to Sara Nickel, SPED teacher, for being nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year! The Kansas Teacher of the Year Award recognizes, and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. Its mission is to build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance, and the teaching profession. Sara Nickel has taught at Turner Elementary for seven years. Since working in the Turner school district she has taught special education for many grade levels including kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Mrs. Nickel is an active member of the BIST, Student Intervention, and her grade levels’ Turner Learning Teams. When nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year she said, “I feel incredibly honored and humbled. Thank you to all of the students, families, and colleagues for making me feel special. You are my inspiration and why I am in this profession!” Sara was honored at the Teacher of the Year Banquet on Sunday, September 8th, in Overland Park, Kansas.
